Dr Carlisle George, Barrister & Senior Lecturer in the School of Computing Science, was an invited speaker at the Podcasting for Education Conference 2 & 3 April 2008, held at the University of Warwick. The two day conference (a collaboration between Discovering Futures and the University of Warwick’s web and communications teams) brought together for the first time a selection of professional experts to discuss and review the use of podcasting in academia and associated student and recruitment services.

Dr George spoke on the impact of Web 2.0 and legal aspects of Podcasting. In his talk he explained the nature of Web 2.0 and the global impact that it continues to have especially in facilitating: user generated content; social and professional interactivity/networking; and social, cultural, economic and political change. Dr George also highlighted some of the legal aspects of podcasting and discussed issues such as the recent Audiovisual Media Services Directive 2007/65/EC, Intellectual Property law (Copyright & Trade marks), Licensing, Liability for content, and Data Protection amongst others.
