Abstract
Despite the existence of several supply chain models, it is argued in this research that these failed to provide a comprehensive framework for capturing and nurturing the flow of information that generates from the movement of physical goods. The research shows that information provenance and information lineage underpins the process of supply chain integration among collaborative partners. It is advocated in this research, that the information supply chain, because of its ability to share, collaborate and cooperate among its information lineage and provenance, enables companies to reveal its performance and positioning in real time. This research attempts to investigate large UK based core organisations representing different industries, namely, food retail chain, telecommunication, supply chain solution providers and manufacturing. The case studies reveal the major enablers and inhibitors of an information supply chain implementation and identify a set of driving forces that motivates organisations to deploy an information supply chain for efficient supply chain integration. The current information flow infrastructures of these organisations are examined and the research proposes a strategic toolkit to aid implementation of information supply chain among the collaborative partners.
