I am a senior lecturer at Middlesex University and part of the Interaction Design Centre. Previously I worked at UCL Interaction Centre on the EPSRC Making Sense of Information in Professional Work (MaSI) project, and the EPSRC platform projects The Design and Use of Complex Information Spaces and Healthy Interactive Systems. Research My research is in the area of computer supported information behaviour, sensemaking, situation awareness and visual analytics. My approach involves field studies to explore individual and collaborative behaviour and needs, the development of theory, and the development and evaluation of systems to support better use and understanding of information. Application areas include journalism, health, underground control, legal E-discovery, alerting and research, and intelligence analysis. I am also interested in how people interact with music technology and the impact of different kinds of interaction approach. See my publications here Teaching I am module leader for CMT 2321 Principles of Human Computer Interaction. I also teach on the new Masters by Research in Visual Analytics. I recently organised Visual Analytics Summer School (VASS) on behalf of the UK Visual Analytcis Consortium (UKVAC). Student Projects I am interested in supervising student projects in the areas of my research interests. For a limited set of specific ideas see suggestions for projects in interaction design and human computer interaction here. |
