Curriculum Innovation
Organising the "IBM sponsored Java Test" annual event in Computation Department, UMIST. This event which has already taken place twice, on December 2000 and 2001 consists of a laboratory examination and an awards ceremony. Gordon Hutchinson and Ben Corrie from the IBM Java Technology Centre visited the department to invigilate, assess and award the top ten students with IBM prizes and certificates of achievement from the department of Computation (first price an IBM C3 WorkPad). The day included a series of presentations, meetings with academics, and a discussion for further collaboration and publicity. In 2002-2003 this event changed into the "IBM sponsored Java Laboratory Practical" in Computation Department, UMIST. This event consists of a series of laboratory practical exercises and an awards ceremony. John Kinchen, Adam Clow and Liz Williams from the IBM Java Technology Centre visited the department to assess and award the top five students.

Organising the "Web Store Front Development Multiactive Software Awards" event in Computation Department, UMIST. This event took place on December 2001 and involved a series of lectures, presentations, demonstrations and the award of certificates of achievement and ecBuilder Pro Licensed Software to the top ten participating students. The awards were presented by Marcus Potts, the managing director of Multiactive.
