am currently the module leader
for:
BIS3031
Methodologies and Tools for the
Engineering of Information Systems
This
module's systemic approach to
Information Systems Development
ensures understanding of systems
and their failures. The evolution
of lifecycle models and methodologies
is investigated. Methodologies
covered include the participative,
structured, object-oriented and
agile paradigms. Taxonomies of
methods and tools are studied
together with frameworks for the
evaluation and selection of appropriate
methods and tools for different
application domains. In-house
CASE tools are used for modelling
various scenarios. The philosophy
is: No panaceas but attempts to
understand the factors involved
and their interrelationships for
developing high quality systems.
Students of this module should
access its OASIS environment here.

I
have recently visited the Department
of Informatics and Telecommuncations
at University of Athens through
the SOCRATES Teacher Visitng Scheme.
Teaching involved the demonstration
to the students the whole "life-cycle"
of a real application, starting
from requirements capture through
to implementation as part of a
Systems Analysis module final
year under-graduates.
