Apart
from the traditional studenships
that are frequently given towards
fees and maintenance during a
three-year PhD, industrial partners
and government bodies commonly
support students through sponsorships.
Recent and current sponsorships
include:
- EPSRC studentship
supported by BT Labs for the
"Investigation of Dynamic
Role Allocation in Software
Engineering" (September
97 - September 00).
- A maintenance
and fees studentship supported
by the Malaysian Government
for "Investigating the
Role of Communication Patterns
in Online Learning Communities"
(September 02 - September 05).
- A PhD studentship
sponsored by the Global Campus
Project for the "Implementation
of ICT in Education" (October
04 - October 07).
- A PhD studentship
sponsored by the Global Campus
Project for the "Development
of Virtual Research Environments"
(October 04 - October 07).
IPR ownership usually follows
the regulations set by the university,
unless an agreement has been reached
with the industrial partner prior
to the start of the programme.
The student is a member of the
university's research staff and
has a team of supervisors, including
a director of studies, an academic
mentor and an industrial supervisor.
