The role of Schools Liaison Officer primarily involves visits to local schools as well as provision of information and answering queries of teachers and perspective students nationwide. The School Liaison Officer is in close collaboration with admissions staff and mainly the Undergraduate Admissions Tutor. This role also required the organisation and attendance of a variety of events, such as:

  • Departmental Open Days including a number of talks, manning the departmental stand and visits and tours of the campus and the departmental building.
  • UMIST Open Days including mainly manning the departmental stand and responding to any visitor queries ranging from entry requirements to available courses and programmes of study.
  • Attending the Teachers and Careers Advisers Conference hosted by the university.
  • Participating in programs such as "Headstart" being run in conjunction with the Royal Academy of Engineering, and is designed to provide students the opportunity to experience what it is like to study science and engineering at university.
