Title: Quantum Probability Tutorial I Speaker: Roman Belavkin (Middlesex University) Abstract: We shall discuss some basic aspects of von Neumann's quantum probability as a non-commutative generalization of Kolmogorov's classical probability theory. We shall compare quantum concepts, such as algebra of ortho-projectors, observables and density operators, to their classical counterparts, such as algebra of indicator functions, random variables and probability densities. Some physical motivation for this generalization will be discussed. Our goal will be to introduce minimal knowledge required for the discussion of quantum-classical interface (the interaction between quantum and classical systems) and associated problems that arise not only in physical experiments, but also in quantum computation.
