Academic staff profile

Dr Birinder Sandhawalia is Senior Lecturer in Project Management.

The main area of Birinder’s work is project management. He has conducted research on project management maturity models, capability and competence in project management, knowledge management, agile projects, and project leadership, decision making and negotiation.

Birinder has examined the use of knowledge within software projects and analysed knowledge management infrastructure and processes, and their role in supporting and improving the effectiveness of software development and project management processes. Recent work includes developing and validating a knowledge management capability framework based on an empirical case study conducted at one of the world’s largest and globally distributed software project organisations. His research findings are reported in refereed technical papers that have been published in leading journals and presented at international conferences.

Birinder is currently developing employer-led approaches to project management provision for the Institute for Work Based Learning. The approach integrates the work-based learning framework within the Institute’s portfolio, and makes a major contribution to the continued development of programmes featuring a project-driven approach in the context of Work-Based Learning.

Birinder is developing new curricula, and contributes to teaching, learning and assessment, as well as consultancy and the maintenance of collaborative links, including the Middlesex Organisational Development Network (MODNet).
